FREIGHT WAR IN AUSTRALIA

It is estimated that as a result of reductions in freight rates since October last the shippers between the various ports affected have saved about £200,000 and another reduction of £50,000 has been secured by competitive tendering for freighting the Queensland sugar crop to* the Soul hern retmery. Reductions in freight have also, led to an increae in the volume cj. in-ter-State trade. A striking instance cf the reduction is wool, which was formerly carried at 11/6 for au ordinary bale and 10/ dumped. Tt is now quoted at 7/ generally ami ir seme cases 6/6.
