GIRL GUIDES
LOCAL COMPANY ENROLLED. An event of considerable impoitana* locally in connection with the Girl Guide movement' was the visit to Tauranga on Friday last of Mrs Wilson, of Auckland, and Miss Prior, an Imperial Guide, representing Headquarters, London. The object of the visit was to. enrol the members of the Company here which has recently been organised by Miss Boyd. The ladies were met shortly after their arrival by Miss Maxwell, (President of the- local organisation) Mrs Macmillan, and the Mayoress (Mrs Dive). Later in the afternoon the- enrolling ceremony -was performed in the Presbyterian ‘ Church grounds. It was an impressive little ceremony and at its conclusion Miss Prior addressed' a few appropriate words to the girls. She reminded them that the promise they had just made—to serve God and the King, and help others at all times—must always bekept. They must also remember always to keep the Guide- law. Living a 3 they did in one of the oldest settled; spots in New Zealand, it meant that they had a lot of tradition behind them. That should inspire them, as Guides, to build tip more tradition, and show people what Guides really were—bright, happy people, always willing and anxious to be good friends. As Guides they should be very proud of their badges. The formation of the company in Tauranga formed another link in the chain of -guides throughout Now Zealand, and she trusted Arose who had been enrolled that day would act up to all that their promise meant, and the Company would grow and prosper.
In the evening Miss Prior delivered an interesting address in the Town Hall on the aims and objects of the movement.
