FOX SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT. Rec. Dec. 24, 9 a.m. New York, Dec. 23. Philip Fox was sentenced at Atlanta to life imprisonment for the murder of William Coburn. The trial caused a great stir among the Ku Klux Klan organisation throughout the Southern States. Coburn, , , _ _i? i._ i _ 1 1
who was a. lawyer, directed a legal fight with the object of wresting control of the Klan from the Evans group and replacing it in the hands of William Simmons, founder of the organisation. Coburn’s investigations., . involved Fox in criminal actions, and Fox, who was publicity manager for Evans, fearing exposure., declared when he shot Coburn that lie would rather be hanged than ruined. The jury ignored the plea of insanity.
