ELECTRICAL STOCKS

REPORT BY INDEPENDENT EXPERT At the meeting of the Borough Council last night a letter was read from Mr Stackpoole, of the National Electrical and Engineering Co.,Ltd., Auckland, who wrote as follows; “ I have to report that I have checked and examined the electrical stocks held by the Electricity Department. I found the quantities shown in the stock book to be correct, with the exception of one or two small items, which have been correct ed. The values shown by your engineer were very fair replacement costs on to-day’s markets, and in some instances it was found that the valuations were on the low side, some of which I felt justified in increasing. Your stocks are in first-class*condition and well-kept. The amounts stock on hand that is depreciated and has become valueless is so small as to be negligible. The quality is much better than is usually found in such stocks. Certain material which is «storeo at Te Puke was not inspected W me, as the time at my disposal would not permit of inspection. Values shown on the stock slice do not make any allowance tor freight charges from source oi supply to Tauranga- It is estimated that this would increase the total shown by about m P er cent. Time did not permit ot a total of stock being taken ou t but this is to be done m y° l office and the stock snee forwarded to me. Immediate y this is done they will be again checked, signed and returned you. ” Cr Whiting—lt is a very satisfactory report. I move the letter be received.

Cr Jones seconded. Cr Wrigley said the idea was that stocktaking be taken independently with no access w invoices. The whole thing w a farce. He was disappointed Cr Jones said Mr Stackpoole had told him he had done a greaj deal of stocktaking. Heiw Jones) thought the wort: «* done in a very satisfactory

manner, _ •« Cr Whiting said the Councu had got the most capable man ij was possible to get. He wan to know how they were, satisfy Cr Wrigley- He the report reflected great crcoi on the engineer. . 'fhe motion was put dIJ carried.
