A report from Constantinople states that the Kcmalists, chagrin- [ id at the reverst-s, arc executing captured Greek soldiers if found to be Turkish subjects. London, August 3. Tlie “Daily Telegraph’s" special correspondent with the Greek army static that die Greeks strongly hold the Bagdad railway as far as Eskisbehr. Kcmal's munitions were inadequate at the commencement of the campaign, and are now so depleted that it is impossible for him to attempt serious attack. He maintains near Angora the semblance of an army estimated at 50.000, chiefly in order to impress the, European Powers, but the force is lacking in equipment and moral. Men are deserting continually at the first opportunity, lie declares as entirely true the Greek claims diat the populace received them in the captured areas as liberators. They are delighted to escape the Kemalist exactions and the depredations of irregular bandits. The Greek commanders, as well as King Constantine and M. Gentians, are convinced that the attitude of some of the European Bowers is encouraging Kemal’s rebellion. The Powers apparently postpone,d recognition of the Greek victory and superiority in Asia Minor similarly to their recoguiton of Constantine. Greece is, therefore, thrown on her own resources, and is determined to continue her efforts until her right to liberate her kinsmen in Asia is recognised.
REIGN OF TERROR ESTABLISHED. Rec. August 5, 8.55 a.m. The Kemalists have established a reign of terror in the. Trebizond region. They' are rounding up Greek subjects and putting them to death. Twenty-seven Britishers, includColonel Rawlinson and Captain Campbell, are still retained as prisoners, (heir present whereabouts being unknown.
