THE CREED OF TO-DAY
What is the true religion, what is thy creed to-day? Ask of the winds that scatter the autumn leaves away. Ask of the moon that floated) ’mid a canopy of star, Ask of the wild waves dashing The foam from their crests afar. Traverse the wind swept desert, where Mahomet reigns supreme, Where life beneath the burning sun is just a blissful dream. Wind through the Indian forests, where the palm trees wave on h’K 11 ’ . ‘ And the mountain tops, with then crests of snow, rear far in the
cloudless sky. Travel the wide world over, seek it from pole to pole, What faith should guide the living from an inward depth of soul? From Christian and from Bijgan, from all that live and die. The answer comes from every clime, and echoes this reply, Lo! thousands scoff at every creed, A few in earnest pray.
But the worship of gold, with its power untold, Is the Creed of the World to-dav! H. SOUTHEY. Tauransa, June Ist, 1921.
