MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT.
Several Persons Injured
Nelson, Feb. 12
A mail car, belonging to the Newman Brothers, went over a bank yesterday • morning, when on the way from Nelson to Blenheim, but the passengers suffered only minor injuries, and the driver escaped uninjured. The accident occurred in the Wangamoa Valley. When coming round the corner the car met a timberladen waggon, and in endeavouring to pass touched the hub of one of the wheels of the wagon and overturned. The car fell about ten feet and some of the passengers were pinned beneath it. A telegraphic party was working near the spot, and they, together with several returned soldiers on a second car, rendered assistance in extricating the passengers and giving first aid. They also telephoned to Nelson for doctors, and two medical men went out. Two of the passengers continued their journey to Blenheim. These were Miss McFadden, of Blenheim, who had her face and legs rather badly cut ; and an elderly man who did not need medical attention. Five persons were admitted to the Nelson hospital, viz., Mr Uriah Blanchett, MrMoran, Miss Sattchell, Miss Slyees, and Mrs Perment The patients are mostly suffering from bruises and are ail expected to be able to leave the hospital soon. The car received some damage, one wheel being smashed.
