DESPERATE HOURS.
Turks Held at Bay
For fifteen hours the Australasians occupied the heights under an incessant shell fire without the moral or material support of a single gun ashore. They were subjected during the whole time to the violent counter attack of a Wave enemy, skilfully led, with snipers deliberately picking off every otticer who endeavoured to give a command or lead his meu. There is no finet feat in this war than the sudden landing iu the dark, the storming of the heights, and above all holding on whilst reinforcements were lauding. The raw Colonial troops in these desperate hours proved worthy to ViglF- side by side with the heroes of Mous, the Aisue, Ypres aud Neuve Chapelle.
