The adjourned inquos»c ou Fredrick Evaus who met his death as tho result ufa blow from a policeman's baton on 12cU November, was opened this morning Mr Selevyn Mays appeared on behalf of the police, aud Mr J. R, Luudon for the relatives of Evans The evideuce of Countable Wade, who was shot by Evans, was taken at thhospital, the constable bein# propp.jri up in bed. Witness stated that hk attention was first oireetad to the h ill by hearing revolver shots. H« entor ed the passage alone, instructing three at tho door to remain outside. He saw Evans behind the swing doors of the library room with a revolver in his hand. Tne latter immediately fired. He thought the shot was intended for him but did'nt know where the bullet went. Ho at once ran through the swing doors after Evans who with three others decanip edatthe rear of the building. He followed close at the heels of Evqns The latter half furred his head, s^ung his arm round and tired direct at Wade, the intervening distance being about five paces. He closed with Evans and struck him on the side of his head \mh his baton, Evans fnl inu on his face. He had feared Evans would use the revolver again. Witness received the built t iv the region of the abdomen. He did not see tho crowd ill-treat Evans. (Proceeding.)!
