The County Clerk. Thames, wrote enquiring whether the Council considers it advisable i-o hot1.! a Conference of thi3 local Ironies within the suggested Cci'omruv.lel l'lovincial District, regarding i.hp proposal Local t'overnnuni Uill, or whether Uu Conference to b(^ held in Wellington will be doomed sufliekni ?
Lt was decided that it was not ne cessary to hold a Conference withir the suggested provincial district.
.Mr d'araway, secretary of tho Bay of PUnty Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard, Whakatane, notified tltat a conference of local bodies to .select a representative to go to Sel-ling-ton for the. purpose of considering the Hill will be held at Wlvakatane on the 10th jnst. He stated the County Council has the right to send one delegate and he asked U, be informed of his name as soc-n as appointed. Mr B. C. Uobbins (Mayor), aa-\ Councillors Castaing, (.'armichael, Brabant, Hammoivd, Murdoch an;l Duncanson waited on the County as a deputation from the Borough C-otm. cil in regard to the subject- '?
The • Mayor acted as spokesman and pointed out that fI auranga hau little or no community of interest with the Ool'dfields province, lie suggested that.the Tauranga district should be included in the Bay of Plenty, and pointed out that the boundaries of the provinces would finally be settled ;>y Parliament. Ho. made a strong appeal for the County Council's co-operation and pointed out that no time was to be lost as the (Jovemment seemed bent on passing the Bill.
Or. Stewart supported the 'Mayor's remarks, and suggested that the matter be left in the haivds of the County Chairman and the Mayor.

Whakatane Conference
Cr. McEwen was against' placing education in the'hands of. the Pro vjncial Councils. The interests of Tauranga and the Buy of Plent\ were 'identical and he thought as mam- delegates as possible should proceed to Whakatane.
Mr Hdbbin.s asked the County Council to pass a motion, if the.v deemed fit, disapproving- of \M<bouadaries proposed in the Bill and suggesting that Tauranga bo included in the Bay of Plenty, and1 forward such resolution to the Government. The interests of the Bay of Plenty were identical -and. he failed to see why they should be split up.
Cr. dray 'supported Mr Robbins, and moved —That Civ MeEwen be appointed as delegate from the County to attend the Yvhakatane Conference. —Seconded by Cr. Sou they and car-

Cr. Spcnce proposed—That this Council, disapproves of the inclusion of Tauranga County in the Coromaiidcl Provincial District, and requests that the Borough and County oi Tauranga 'be embraced in the Bay or Plenty Provincial District.—Seconded by Cr. Southey. and carried.
Mr bobbins suggested that the County and Borough should unite in endeavouring to induce other local- bodies to send delegates to Whakatane this week.
(Jr. Southey proposed—That the smaller local bodies be communicated with in the name of -the" Mayor and County Chairman, pointing out the absolute necessity for each . sending a delegate to the> : Wh-akaitane Conference.—Seconded by Cr. Gray and carried unanimously.
Mr Robbins thanked the County Chairman for the encouraging way in which the deputation had been re-
ceived and the Mayor and Borough Councillors then withdrew.
Subsequently, the Mayor, on I-*- Ihalf of the Horough Council, 'offered to contribute towards the cost of a combined delegation procetuliivg to Whakatane this week.
Cr."Southey moved—That the County Council agree to contribute half of the expenses of the delegation to Whakatane.
The motion was seconded by Cv. Cray, supported 'by Cr. Matthews and carried.
