Mr Den-ham reported having inter, viewed Mr Hannah .(district engineer), and submitted a plan of part of the Kopurererua Kiver, prepared by the stall' of the Public. Works Department, showing water level ay

high and low tides, soundings, proposed new channel, fall, etc. South ward of the bridge, lor a considerable distance, there is a fair -depth of water, ranging up to I.oft in places. At the bri-dgc, on the main road, there is Oft at low tide, but northward, on ehe Waikareao Hat-, th-o depth of the stream dec raises until it is only a little oxer one foot, in the neighbourhood of the ford.

Members agreed that, the work o) carrying out improvements northward of the bridge was outside thei; province, and should be undertaken by the Borough and County Councils or a Harbour Board if establish cd.

It was stated that a fall of lit Could be obtained in a length of about fj.t chains of the stream How jug' I'hrough Mr Bell's property. At this point great improvement could be elTeuted by straightening the course of the river, which would would moan the digging" of about 30 chains of new channel.

Those present favoured the proposal to straig-hten the river at the pltvco mentioneU.

Mr Denlvam considered that the Hoard was in a position to clear the. river of willows at tho lowoi* entl, st raight-i?!"! course where ' t-iujy-yoatud, and effect other improvements on the portion from the race-course property to the bridge on the main road.

It was mentioned Oh at- the Board has a sum of £500, special loan money, available for expenditure.

After further discussion Mr Tsarke proposed—That Messrs Denham,, Taylor,, and Haniilt-on-C!rapes be enpoweml ~to make the necessary arrangements for proceeding with the work immediately on receipt of the. approved plan and engineer's report from the Public Works .Department.

The motion was seconded by Harvey and carried unanimously
