AUCKLAND LAND BOARD.

MEETING AT TAURANGA

A special meeting of the Auckland Land Board was livid in thj Courthouse, Taui-anga, this morning.

' Mr J. Trounson, a member of the Commission, .who is also on the -Representation Commission, is now away in Wellington.

Mr C. S. Kensington (Crown Lands Ranger) was in attendance.

Mr : J.••■■H.* Griffiths, county clerk, asked if anything had been done -by the Auckland Land 'Board in connection with the tenders for timber inthe Mangat'O'tara; block. . Mr Leckie promised to look into the matter and give Mr Griffiths an answer as soon as possible. Mr A. W. Carmichael brought up 'whe question of throwing open the Mangatotara block. There were about 40 sections in the block, and ■ne considered there was little* timber on it 'beyond that required for the wants of the settlers. He thought the timiber had not been tendered for. The Kaimai Mock, adjoining on on 3 side, and the Whakamarama block on the other, were ali*eady taken up.

It was resolved that the Mangatotara block-be opened under the optional system, Government reserving the right to the royalty on -x-he timber if a mill starts ; if no mill, no royalty to be collected.

Mr P. Donovan stated he had a couple of sections at Otancwainuku. He had let a contract for clearing, and was 'anxious for road access to ■be provided. A road was-'surveyed, •out was not yet made. Mr Donovan said there* were a!u\o>ut- ton settlers in the neighbourhood.

Mr Leckie said he understood that Mr Cook (late dist)*ict engineer) had niade a recommendation that the toad be made. Resolved—That representation be made to the Roads Department to have the road made, as same is urgently required by the settlers. Mr Sharp said there were ;' two /'small grazing runs in Te Puna. He •believed these were thrown open some time ago on renewable lease. These; were difficult of access, and there was some good land on them. At present it was lying idle. He; suggested that the land jbe thrown open on the O.R.P. system in;blocks of afrout 500 acres.

Mr Leckie -said, .the land would have to be thrown open andor renewable lease, as it Was within the gold-held', area. He intimated that th<* Board *had alrieady repnesc-nted that the minmg restrictions be; lifted, but the recommendation had not been gi,en effect-to:.. w ■ Mr F. W- Kemp also waitod on tne Board in regard to the small grazing" -f u.nV at TePuna alluded to by Mr *?harp. A f > Mr A.
