Then there was Mr H. W. Caistens on the piccolo (accompanied on the piano by Wiss Af. Oarstens), who simply delighted the dancers with his masterful playing, and was frequently applauded. Misses G., and R. Hammond, E. Whitoombo, Messrs A. Walker, L. UowelJ, 0. DaviYs also assisted at the piano at intervals. Captain Beach and Air 8. Smith each contributed songs, for which they earned the waim applause of the assemblage, and had to respond with encores. At 11.15 supper was partaken of in the *nnexe ad joining !be bull. After all had done fulljustice to the good things provided dancing was resumed and kept up with vigour till an ear'y hour this morning. The, promoters have every reason to feel highly gratified at/ the splendid results which attended their efforts Valuable assistance was rendered by the following committee of ladies : Mrs I' 1 , ll Uiitt-ic(>id, Misses M. Carstens, Ho well, Cook, Hammond, Whitcombe and McArthur. The social committee comprised Messrs 11. Tascoe, E. Cook, F. Middltton, 0 Delaney, A. Faulkner, Q. V. Stewart, G. Coulan, and J. Pascoe (secretary). During an interval Bandmaster Howell thanked all who had contributed towards the sue« cess of the function, specially mentioning the ladies committee for their generous efforts.
On all sides.the highest encomiums were passed on the excellent music supplied by the portion of the Band present in the theatre. Altogether there are now 22 instrnmeutalUta in the Band, and it is considered that another eight could be secured if sufficient instruments were available. The committee is directing its energies towards raising an instrument fund, and hopes to purchase in the near future a double bass, two tenor horns, and a baritone. In addition to the instruments handed over by the Corporation to the Bandmaster, the following members possess their own instruments: Messrs E. Howell (Besson prototype cornet), H. W. Carstens (sliding trombone), B. Cook, Q. V. Stewart, I. Nixon, T. Cook and G Coulan (cornets), H. Pascoe (tenor horn), and Brown (kettledrum). The prospects of Tauranga soon possessing an efficient Band are at present very '.right Members are attending assHuously to practice, and hope to fulfil their first public engagement on Begatta Day (Easter Monday).
