EXTENDING- THE TELEPHONE.
Mr M. PhilHps, hon. secretary of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, wrote asking for the installation of tbe tetephone at -bhe ftoucej Chan* bers, and pointed out that it is highly probable that the number of subscribers foe tie telephone will, very shortly, amount to <3O> whet* the hours of tbe telephone service will be irom 8 a.m. lo 8 p.m., instead of as at present, from 9 a.m. to -5 p.m., which the Chamber thinks will be a considerable convenience to residents and business people. ' .
Cr. Tunks said he had previously moved that the telephone be instaltei! >n lihe Council office- Tfo stir) thought it was required there and moved— That the telephone be installed in the Council Chambers.—Seconded by Cr. M&cmillan and carried unanimously.

Adams moved— That »the town clerk write to His Excellency the Governor notifying him of the pleasure the Council feels in hearing that h* is likely to pay the town an oif-~c-ial visit and requesting that the Council :may be notified the date of his expected arrival as soon as definite arrangements are made. — Seconded by Cr. Munro and carried. < UNREGISTERED AND STRAYING ANIMALS. Cr. Brabant said -he wished to draw the attention of the impounding committee to unregistered stock straying, on the streets. *
Cr. Ludwig said he 'had noticed five draught horses on the streets that night.
Cr. Adaius stated that a y . strong complarnt h#d 'been made to him that day about stcck running about at night. -
Cr. Macmillan said he could find horses and cattle out saven nights in the week. Somethajig drastic would have to be done. He • instanced the case of where a coty, in its anxiety to protect its calf| on a road in the town, had charged a dog- and endangered the life of a little chijd by so doing. Cr. Tunks said he understood the Btipulation was mad« (feat cattle wc«e not to run without wearing tbe badge. On tbe previous afternoon ho had noticed 15 cows on the streets. Mr Hall (poundkeo} ei) said 1 these things may 'happen. He met & : man that night looking fi.r his horses. There may be one or two animals without collrrs.but he had had - the dogs to attend to and had also boen attending a Court case in Te Puke. Cr. Ludwig said a good many calves were running on the streets that had no right to be there. Cr. Munro moved— That . the poundkeeper be instructed to prepare a list ibowjfcg t>he owner/; vi the r<vg> istcf^J horses, cattle and doas in Lhe bcrough and that the sane be posted in the Council Chan hers. He referred to the l?.r;e number of ilogs about the town and said t':at if a list were posted in the Council offiiccs a person could apcertain whether dogs, horses or cattle were r2g;stcrctl.
The motion was seconded by Cr Washer and carried.
