Mr M. PhilHps, hon. secretary of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, wrote asking for the installation of tbe tetephone at -bhe ftoucej Chan* bers, and pointed out that it is highly probable that the number of subscribers foe tie telephone will, very shortly, amount to <3O> whet* the hours of tbe telephone service will be irom 8 a.m. lo 8 p.m., instead of as at present, from 9 a.m. to -5 p.m., which the Chamber thinks will be a considerable convenience to residents and business people. Cr. Tunks said he had previously moved that the telephone be instaltei! >n lihe Council office- Tfo stir) thought it was required there and moved— That the telephone be installed in the Council Chambers.—Seconded by Cr. M&cmillan and carried unanimously.

Munro and carried. < UNREGISTERED AND STRAYING ANIMALS. Cr. Brabant said -he wished to draw the attention of the impounding committee to unregistered stock straying, on the streets. *

Cr. Ludwig said he 'had noticed five draught horses on the streets that night.

Cr. Macmillan said he could find horses and cattle out saven nights in the week. Somethajig drastic would have to be done. He • instanced the case of where a coty, in its anxiety to protect its calf| on a road in the town, had charged a dog- and endangered the life of a little chijd by so doing. Cr. The motion was seconded by Cr Washer and carried.
