A SMALL OVERDRAFT. The borough treasurer notif.ed that there was an overdraft of 18s 9d owingj to •fcho / ,i>ank by the Mojani Maunganui Domain Board. The chairman movedt-That this Council ••authorises the advance of £l : 17^ 3d to the Mount Maunganui Domain Board account to dischtfge overdraft at the 'bank and an account for notice boards.— Seconded by Cr. Duncanson and carried. INVITATION TO MINISTERS. Tht/Tauranga Chamber of Con> merce wrote -inviting the Council <to appoint representatives to meet two representatives from the Chamber to make arrangements' for inviting the Hons. D. Buddo 'and T. McKqn7ie (.to visit Tatremga ait an earfy date. It was resolved— That the DeputyMayor and Cr. Washer be appoinj-ed a sub-committee to act in the matter with the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. BOROUGH PROPERTIES. Mr Cleir.son, borough valuer, sent notice of valuations of properties ciwncid by the Borough Council .—Referred to the Endowment Committee. OFFER OF FIRE ENGINE. Yr L. B-irks, resident ' officer, Town of Rotorua, wrote notifying that 'he has a Rex chemical engine for sale. —Received. A GAS LIGHTING COMPLAINT. ftfr H. Phillips, hoti. secretary of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, wrote stating that at a meeting of the Chamber, held on February .7, it. was resolved that .urgent representation fee made to the Borough Counr c!l and the Tauranga Gas Companyto provide a. more efficient 'gas scrv'.ce in the be rough.

Cr. Munro moved— That a reply be sent that the matter has already been dealt with.— Seconded by Cr. Tunks. Cr. Washer fchougfrt that if any lights were erected one was required near the Victoria Wharf. Cr. Ludwig said it had been, decided that a lamp was authorised to be erected in Sixth Avenue, but it had not yet 'been pkced in position. McKenzie, Minister of Public Wt-rJcs. forwarded a -memo, under date March 1, stating . that owing to his absence from Wellington be has only just received the towri ckrk's letter, dated February 18, forwarding copy of resolutions passed at the -last meeting of the Council with reference to the Construction of that portion of the East Coast railway between Tauranga arid Te Puke. — Received. APPLICATION TO CUT TREES. Mr C. F. Hulme wrote asking the Council to trim the trees overhanging tfce cliff above the public baths, tfhioh if done, he said would wgive him a view of the harbour. He also asked for permission to cut down each altfijnato willow tree and top the remainder oa both sides of First Avenue, northeast end. He* Suggested that the matter be referred to the streets committee, with power to act, when a consultation between them and the writer could take place. Cr. Adams moved— That the letter be referred to the streets committee with power to act. Seconded by Cr. Ludwig, who was not in favour of cutting the trees on the cliff, but thought thßy might be topped. Cr. Munro thought too many trees were being cut down. Cr. Washer 'draw attention to the need of trimming some trees in Dev> onport Road, as they were a menace to traffc. The motion was put and carried. ' PERMISSION, TO ERECT A VERANDAH. Mr F. H. Hammond ;ask«d permission to erect a verandah fronting his premises.

Provisional permission had been granted by the' streets committee. The action of the streets committee was approved. SPECIFICATION FOR / BATHS HEPAIRS Mr G. A. Ward wrote re specification for baths' repairs, as follows : —"I am in receipt of yours of the 25th ulto., re the above, requesting me to have the specifications for the contract for baths improvements returned to the Council Chambers at the earliest opportunity. Presuming that this refers to "the recent repairs carried <out on my specj'lcat'ions, the contract has been duly completed, and I have only my own copy of the specifications,- which is lying at my office as usual, and the contractor at present retains his copy, which he will return to me, as usual on demand. If your Council, or any member, or members, thereof, desire to refer to the specifications^, I shall be pleased to show them to them, and give any information in my power. It may avoid any misconception if I say that the proper and legal place for plans and sptcifcations to be seeji, after they have once -been decided or ordered upon, is at the office of the architect or engineer, who -is responsible, for* their proper oarryjmg out, and at the conclusion of the work they remain his property."

Cr.. Mimro moved— That the letter be held over lor consideration till next meeting. The mot ion. was seconded by Cr. Washer and carried.
