LORD KITCHENER'S ARRIVAL o -
(Per Press Association.) iNVERCATtOILL, Feb. 18. H M.S Encounter, with Lord Kitchener aboard, did not arrive at the Bluff till the afternoon. Tbe landing was a quiet, unpretentious affair and nothing of importance happened. t?ir Joseph Ward, Cols Robin, Collins and Tusou boarded the ship and shook hands with Lord Kitchener. The Mayor of Carapbelltown read a short address of welcome, and Lord Kitchener very briefly acknowledged and expressed pleasure at being in NewZealand, At Inveruarglll another address was read and another brief reply, made. Lord Kitchener inspected the veterans and volunteers drawn up to receive him, and shook hands with a number of Maoris, who danced a haka. Lord Kitchener then went on to Dunedin. Dunedin, Feb. 18. A demonstrative welcome was ac corded, Lord Kitchener. The streets were crowded, ne was welcomed by the Mayor. Lord Kitchener, in reply, said it was a pleasure to him to pay a visit to this prosperous city. He felt no stranger, for liis fatler owned property in Dunedin and his brother worked there for years. He had also great pleasure in meeting his sister. Amidst the enthusiasm the Prime Minister was overlooked, no seat beiog provided for him in any of the carriages and Sir Joseph proceeded to the Grand Hotel by motor-car.
