; In tbe afternoon a rifle match wasj held between volunteers and, cadets, on a challenge : froni the latter/ The conditions were that teams consist Of eight men aside, ranges tq be those used by the cadet corps, and their rifles to be used by both sides, positions to be as follows :— At 100 yards, * standing r at 150, kneeling, and at 200, lying., The Tauranga Mounted Rifles decided ip jmt two teams on the ground, feeling that the cadets were antagonists who must be met by the best shots of the dquadnnr, yet at the same time desiring to 'give the younger pr less experienced members a chance to . prove' their^ mettle. The afternoon was favourable, so far as weather conditions were Concerned, a nd a; good deal of interest was taken in .the contest, which resulted in a victory fbr the Tauranga Mounted lii-' fle's A teawiy while the cadets had the satisfaction of defeating the squadron's B team with a margin of 27 points. Bisley scoring yas used the possible at each range being 25, but no sensational scores were made, despite the short ranges, the weapons used not handing themselves to the most accurate marksmanship.
