TE PUKE.

(Own correspondent.) The Public Library recently established here is proving itself to be a very popular institution. The selection of the books is an exceptionally good one, and the annual subscription being placed at so low a figure, useful and entertaining reading matter is placed within the reach of all. A number of new books, by the most approved authors, is now being added. The Government subsidy just received will be spent chiefly in furnishing literature for a free reading room, where persons may spend their spare half -hours profitably and with pleasure. At a well-attended meeting of St John's Vestry on Monday evening it was resolved to take early steps for the erection of a Vicarage on the site recently purchased from Mr T. Waldron, for that purpose.
