THE YALU FIGHT.
Russian official reports state] that Japanese steamers have been ( arriving at the mouth of the Yalu river and that small bodies of Japanese troops have been crossing to the Manchurian side daily since April 23rd, at various points. Most of the Japanese and Russian reports say they passed over on pontoons at a point south of iWiju. Fifteen hundred Japanese occupied two islands and drove back the Russian light cavalry, which llostLieut. Semoroff and 18 men killed and woundnd, on the north bank of the river. The Russians claim that their fire was so severe that they must have inflicted considerable losses on the Japanese who were in close formation. On April 26th the Japanese, with a battery of artillery, approached Ohienching, and the Russian artillery caused them to retire in disorder. Reports oonclude with a statement that the Japanese continued to cross the river till April 28th.
