GißßoßffE, Wednesday.—-A heavy gale has raged for the last 24 hours raising a high sea in the bay. During the night the schooner* ; Awanui and Spray arrived from West* port and Mercury Bay respectively. The Awanui was able to make the v river but the Spray got into a danger* ous position near the beaoh and in thfr afternoon drifted into the surf. The waves broke clean over the vessel and the rescue of the crew waa'. very exciting. The schooner lies snug enough and it is expected that she will be got off safely. Both vessel and cargo are uninsured. Paeroa, Wednesday.—rA heavy gale accompanied by an exceptionally heavy downpour of rain prevailed last night, besides uprooting several trees., the ' Town Hall, owned by Cassrells and Bennet was blown down. 1
