MAKETU.
OWN CORRESPONDENT.
Considerable excitement was caused^ at Kaikokopu mill on Friday evening last when some six Maori women became very ill through eating some honey. It appears that a horse kicked over a bee-hive and the won»en went and took the honey »nd ate a considerable portion of the same ; during the night they had fits, foaming at the mouth and endeavouring to bite their tongues off. It took several men to hold each one. Then the Maoris commenced spirit rapping, as they thought that Taipo was about, which caused them some uneasiness. Even on Saturday, until the women who were ill, were pronouaoad to be all right, they went about with Taipo on the brain. On Monday one of the goutohers, (a Maori) got the fingers of one of his hands taken off. I hear that Judge Rogan has disposed of his property to a person named Wilktas, who is coining down to settle here, A mob of some 300 sheep from Tauranga are going down to Mr G-arrett's inn, Pongakawa, to see if any improvemet will take place in their condition, whioh is not at pre« a healthy one.
