SCHOOL STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.
The Secretary of tne Taheke School Committee wrote to the Board /of Education last Friday as follows : — • Thf school building Was struck by lightning on puncUy, A careful examination shows the damage done to be as follows :— Chimney :l About two feet of the top shaken, and twp or three tiers of brickwork dislodged. Roof : About one square yard of shingles stripped off and two battens broken. To repair this it will be necessary to stjrip the greater part of the roof over the porch between the valley and the chimney. W^all of ; main building, the weatherboardina between the most westerly window in frou\ and /the west end of the building is stripped off aldo that below the window. One stud amd portion of bottom plate shattered ; sash frame dislocated, and some pieces splintered, eight panes of glass smashed. The sashes themselves are not injured. The saddle boards have been lifted, part of the lining has been unfastened, and a few of the boards split. The spouting all round the building has been more or less damaged, and the joints opened and a hole about three inches square is blown in the side of £be tank, '
