Auckland, Thursday. — Some irtercsting evidence was given at tie nesting of the $oard °E Renew under the Land and lucome Tax Act yesterday, regarding the value of property in Qnoen St. The Union Bank objected to the Gorerument valuation of the Bank building and kr.d at the corner of Victoria and Queen Sta., which Consists of 80 feet by 1 15, and had been valued by the Government Valuer at •-*■ £170 per foot of frontage to Queejn St, or £22,500 in all, includiug buildings. The Banks valuation was £8,700 for buildings and £3,900 for land. Edwio Heaketh appeared tor the > Bauk and Mr Thomson, manager,; gave evidence to the effect that tft©l land is worth £110 a foot, but iuf answer to Mr Croinbie, Commissioner! of Taxes, he admitted he did nofcf know auy property in Queeu St. which f could be had at that price. W. S. Cochrane deposed that he valued the land at £125 per foot. Ewingfcon estimated the value of 33 feet next to Victoria St at £150 * and auother portion at £100. He stated that although sales had been effected within the last few years at higher prices, the value of property wag less than in 1888. The Crown Prosecutor said in view of the fact that this was the th'rd trial he proposed to enter a nolle prosequi against Harrison, the other prisoner. Coats, Harrison's counsel, said he preferred to have a verdict of acquittal, and Mr Q-ully assenting, the same jury was empannelled and formally acquitted Harrison.
