Melbourne, June 16.— Owing to the date July 4fcb, being fixed for the opening of the conference to discuss* the question of the introductioa of coloured labour into the colonies, not *)6ing suitable for thiß Government, it is uolikely that this -colony will be represented, and it is considered pi obable that the conference will fall through.
It is reported that a woman recently died of starvation at Christchurch. The husband wen! to the North Island, looking for work, and the woman's condition was not Known till just before she was taken to the hospital, where she died, . .
