TE PUKE.

[tffiOM OTJB OW»V COBBESPONDEHT.] I am sure that all Mr Voucher's friends will be sorry to hear of his wire tramway across the Ohineangaanga coming to grief. Yesterday the wire broke in 'the centre of tbe span while three pans of m jlk were be? ing wound across. Messrs ._ Cecil Boucher and Perring were at the windlass when the latter heard a sharp report and jumped back, and the next instant the crank was wrenched from the former's grasp, luckily while his arms were ey.ton(}ed t P n < the No. 3 road-side the wire, liberated from the centre, sprang back into the paddock like the much heard -of and never-to-be-seen sea serpent. The breaking of the wire in the exact centye showed distinctly that the accir dent was no fault of the contractor, Messrs Tanner and McGhee wboerected the tramway, No part of their work has given any sign of breaking down. So far as can be judged by the unscientific, the constant bending to such an acute angle as the centre alone could uudergo, must have been the cause of the breakdown, Mr Bouoher yesterday descended into the sombre depths of the gully, with the dislocating name, there to mourn over the remains of three milk cans which were so terribly mutilated by their sudden contact with the rocks at the bottom of 500 feet; that even their maker could scarcely recoguise them.' To-night, at the hotel, a meeting will be held of all those interested in ourTe Puke athletic sports, February 23rd, 1889.
