♦-= . . ...: [TEH PBESS ASSOCIATION.] STRANGE PROPOSAL. Wellington, yesterday. . A prominent member of the Opposition has made overtures to ! Government that they should reconstruct, and take in Yogel and Hall. A DENIAL. "Yogel said he has never made overtures to the present Premier for a coalition", or authorised any one to make them. When he separated from Stout he determined he would not again onter any Cabinet ia New Zealand gave as Premier. A strong Government was needed. To get it it was necessary the present Premier should be out- of it. CURIOUS PETITION. A petition from Mr Caines of Matakana is largely taken up with the "second coming of Christ " aud pronounces dogmatically that a moustacbed GovernmeDt will never save! New Zealand." This is very rough' on the Atkinson Government. TBE TARIFF QUESTION. Wellington, this day. The Premier moved his Tariff resolutions last night, putting off revision of the Tariff till the recess. Yogel and his followers withdrew, and the resolutions were therefore carried br 44 to 4. j
