TO THE EDITOR. Sib, It has been reported during the last few daya that the Company intend making application for a further extension of time from August 1885 to August 1886, making 1 in all, a term of fifteen months from date before the Company would have to commence operations. My object in writing on this subject, is r that the public may. be acquainted with, what is proposed and also that they may consider the following points in connection therewith : — (Ist) Tho advisability or otherwise of such a long extension of time as that proposed without a deposit or guarantee of some kind that tho persons with whom the Company is negotiating will commence within the extended time. (2nd) The advisability or otherwise of looking up for such extended term the large area of Crown Lands allocated to the Company. I do not trench on private interests at stake. The Direotors elected by the subscribers to the preliminary expense fund have I know taken great trouble and more than a fair share of expense upon themselves and are quite justified in not publishing the result of their negotiations, and let failure or. success attend their efforts to float the Company, are entitled to the thanks of the community. But as there aro linos of public i policy involved in the question of extension of time, the public may fairly claim to criticize the situation. — I am, &c, H. 0. Jordan. I
