JUNIOR FOOTBALL
The opening match took place, in the Domain, on Saturday last between the boys of the Collegiate School, and the High School, Devonport Road. The latter played one man short in the first spell, and two men short in the second and third. The Collegiates having sixteen on their side. For the first twenty minutes no score was made on either side and some excellent play was shown. The boys of the High School were overmatched but played with good judgment and plenty of pluck, some the little fellows showing wonderful quickness and knowledge of the game. "Where all played so well and' pluckily on both sides it would be invidious to make comparisons. One point, however, may be of use to notice, namely, the value of playing in a compact body and supporting the runners. The match resulted in a victory for the Collegiates, who obtained three tries, two of which were converted iato goals by P. Hulme. The junior clubs will be a valuable recruiting ground for the representative players of the district. \
