MR S HEEHAN' S CANDIDATURE
[by telegraph.] [peom our special correspondent.] Paeroa, Wednesday. Last, night Mr Sheehan addressed meetings — first afc Shortland at 5 p.m., Kirikin at 7.30, and Puriri at 9.30— at eacli place he was well received, and, with, the exception of Puriri, votes j of confidence were accorded to him without v dissenting Yoic&. In thej last-named place the motion for confidence was met by an amendment proposed by Mr Crib (who was demonstrative throughout the proceedings in favour" of Kelly) for thanks only. The motion, however, was carried en a show of hands ; the mover, seconder, i and. two others being the only dissenters. Slieelid.li then went by trap, arriving at Paeroa about 4 a.m. this morning. He leaves at noon for Tauranga, via Owharoa, where he speaks to-night. He expects to leave there about 10 p.m. for Tauranga.
