This morning Government receivedl advices from tho Agent- General stating, that Eussia had advanced across the r Afghan frontier, and hostilities had already commenced. The message also stated that England will declare war against Eussia immediately. The steamship Euapehu, while coming up the harbour, kept too close to the southern shore, and stuck in th» mud. She is expected to float off this evening. Colonel Hewitt, it is understood, has accepted the appointment of the command of the Voluntoer forces of the Colony, and will leavo immediately for the now sphere of action. It has been decided to connect; the Forks with the town by telephone.
