Dear Sir, Your last issue contains the information that Mr R. M. M. Brookes has tendered his resignation to the Milton Borough Oouncil, and that. same had been reluctantly accepted. As a ratepayer, I would like to know if that body intends -to follow the recognised custom of advertising for applications for the vacancy, or are the taotios of a certain councillor who has suddenly developed a fatherly (or motherly) interest in the health of bis fellownoouncillors, to ba crowned with Buccess. It is to be hoped that councillors, who have been subjected to.Buch indecently premature can* vassing whilst the late clerk's health was bo unsatisfactory, will treat such conduct with the contempt it deserves, and insist upon applications being oalled for and the most competent applicant appointed to the position. I am, etc. A Ratepayir. Milton/ Aug. 30fch, 1919.
