CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.
Tiro Clutha Presbytery met at Milton on-Wednesday, the 6th inst., when there were present: Rev. Morton' (moderator pro tern), andl Messrs Curxie, MeDowall, Mason, Bandy aivdi Hume (ministers) and Messrs Campbell, Clarke, Edwards, 'Ciu-rdcand Rose (elders). Apologies for absence* were; received from Messrs Carson, bmaill, audi Robertson.
Rev. Durward was cleotexli moderator for the ensuing six months, but in: his absence Mr Morton retained 'the chair. It was 1 agreed) to consider at next Presbytery the question of "Greeds in Kelatioii' to the: Question) of Union/' Mr Hume to open with a short paper. The simultaneous' mission arranged •for by the 'Church Life and Work Committee, from-August 31 to September 7, inclusive, was considered, and on the motion, of Mr McDowall, seconded by Mr Bandy, it was agreed .to strongly urge congregations to take the matter up heartily. It was agreed to call for home mission station balance-sheets, 'and a committee consisting of Messrs Ourric, McDowall, 'Campbell', and. Smaill was appointed' to recommend the grants- for next year. On the motion of Mr Clarke, seconded by Mr Rose, it was agreed' to approve of the Assembly. remit granting 'assistant ministers a seat in Presbytery. Th© following representatives to next Assembly, to m'eet in Invereaxgill in November,, were appointed:—Messrs Currie, Hume, McDowall, Durward, Morton;- Mason., ■ ancU Bandy (ministers). The' sessions -of Balclutha, Kaitangata, Milbum, Owaka, Tokomairiro, and Waitabuna 'were each asked to appoint a delegate. The Presbytery adjourned to 'meet at Balcloitha on Friday, October 10, at 110.45 ip.m.
Thei question' of union with other churches was considered! by the Clu-t-lna Presbytery, at its l -meeting at Milton on the 6th inst. Rev, E. Bandy, in the unavoidable absence: of Eev. P. C. Durward, rcpo'iited! on behalf of the committee! in charge of the matter, and submitted; certain) recommendations as to the 1 best way to secure a.large vote in the.congregation's' withini the bounds. Mr-Clarke, moved: '' Thatin the event of churchesarriving at a satisfactory basis of union, this Pressbyteiry approve»s of to Presbyterian 1 Church of New Zealand ainitinigi with the Methodist and) Congregational Churches.' ' ' Mr 'Edfwardte seconded the motion, which, after short speeches from every member preseaut, was carried with only one 'dissentient. It was agreed to instruct the committee to prepare' and issue voting papers on to question of, the Presbyterian 'Church limiting with to ist amcli Co-ugregational 'Ohurcihes, provided a satisfactory basis Ibo washed,and to ask 'manisteirsi without any show of bias to explain >to position to their xsoEgre'gajtioßfl."
