N. Z. Farmers' Union.

MILTON BIUNOH. ANNUAL MEETING. Tho 18& h annual meeting of the above was hold in tho Coronation Hill, when there was more than an average attend" anoe of members. The president (Mr Jasper Clark) ooeupied the chair.. Oa motion of the Chairman, the an* nual report and balance sheet (aB pub-, liabed in last issue) were adopted. In aaoondiog the motion M<r Wm. Grey said that, taking into account the disorganisation of trade and businesa generally which had obtained daring the period under consideration, they were justified in considering the year's work as fairly satisfactory, but they could not afford to rest content with that, as in the coming year they would have muoh to contend with, and the branch was not in a position to exert the influence it should do, The election of officers resulted as foil* owsi—Messrs J, Clark (President), M, Boott,ViceHPresident; Jaa. Inglis, Secretary, and W. Milne, auditor. With the exception of two members who have left the district the old committee was re-elected, with the addition of the following new members, viz-. Messrs T. Oallanan, John Miller, and Jas. MoGrouther. Nomination of two other members was held over until a subsequent meeting. In thanking the meating for reelecting him president for the ensuing term, Mr Jasper Clark said that there was now more need for the farmers to support the Union, and for members to put their whole hearts into its work. He was glad that this meeting was being held under more favorable conditions than the past four or five, While we rejoiced we could not but sympathise with those who had lost their loved ones, to whom time will bring the consolation that they paid the supreme sacrifice in a righteous and just cause, and that they fought and died to hand down to future generations the British flag and the freedom that goes with it, as their forefathers fought and died to hand it down to them. Now that the war is over it is hoped that everyone will realise his duty to the Empire and to each other in the matter of production and trade. An unrest is rampant at present, which is reducing production, and if it is-not Btopped will bring starvation and misery in its train, Since the last annual meeting the hydro-electric scheme has been [pushed a step further forward, and it will soon be brought to a successful . issue. At present enormous power is running to waste while we hew into the bowels of the earth, and use tho strength of our bodies for energy to do our work. From all accounts the Dunedin scheme has proved a huge success, with a credis balance of no less than £IB,OOO last year, and the Southland people are quite oonfident that they can make a Buccess of their scheme, so it behoves ub to work energetically to get the Otago scheme through also. In moving the vote of £6 6s to the Secretary for the very energetio way in whiob he looked after the Blanche's interests, some trouble was'encontered in getting him to accept any emilument for the duties he performed, The difficulty was eventually overcome by reducing the amount. to £3 Ba, which was voted him with general expressions cf regret that he would not accept something more appreciative of the services he rend- red. The annual subscription remains as previously, viz, lOi 6d. A vote of thanks to the Bruce'Herald' terminated the proceedings,
