Peace Celebrations.
About 40 gentlemen attended the public meeting convened by the Milton Borough Council last evening, to devise a programme for fittingly celebrating the declaration of peace. The Mayor presided, and remarked that, judging from the newspaper reports, peace would shortly be declared. It therefore behoved Milton residents to make preparations for celebrating the auspicious event during the three days' rejoicings which would be declared by the Government. Various &uggestiou3 were put forward, and the following draft programme was agreed on: Sunday-Children's service in Coronation Hall at 3 p.m.; combined religions service for adults at 7 p.m. Local clergy to arrange. Monday—Monster demonstration and sports in afternoon. Committee _to arrange: Mayor, Crs Hitchon, Hollick, Dabinett. Morney.'Messra G. W. Bain, 0, Grey, J. R Wilson, G. H. Thomson, J. Breck, R. Lockhart, and chief officers of Friendly Societies, with power to add. Tuesday-Children's monster sports in show grounds. Committee to arrange : Teachers of Tokomairiro High and dis* trict schools, Messrs L, R, Toaswill, P. M'Guire, R. Milne. J; B. Laing, Geo. M'Laren, J. B. M'lntosh, G, Mir&me, Crs Henderson, Rennie, Kirby, Fleming, Wilson, Rev. Father Howard, and Oapt Brown.
The committees are requested to meet on Wednesday evening, and submit their proposals to a public meeting to be afterwards held,
The Borough Council bears the expense, subsidised by the Government, but a oanva; s will be made to provide prizes for the ch Wren's sports, for which several donations have already been promised.
