MILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Council was held in the Council on Wednesday night. Prosent: The Mayor (Mr 0. King), Crs." W. H. Hitchon, M. W. Fleming. T, G. Henderson, W. A. Wilson, W. Kirby, G. Dabinett, and E. Hollick.
Apologies were received for the absence of Crs A. Rennie and J. Moroney. Correspondence
Mr Alex. Wilson wrote asking permission to fence with rope or wire that portion of blind road between Messrs Liffy and Moffat's properties, leading off Elderlee street.—On motion of Crs Hifcohon and Holl'ck, permission was granted during pleasure of the Council. £ Messrs Mason, Struthers and Co. wrote, in reply to the Council's questions re carbide, that they had cabled to Canada asking by what steamer supplies would bo shipped,—Receivod. ■ Devonport Borough Council forwarded circular letter asking co-operation in urging upon the Government the necessity of repatriating all enemy alien civilians and prisoners of war.—On motion of Crs Fleming and Dabinett it wa3 decided to support tho resolution. Tauranga BDrough Council forwarded circular letter inviting co-operation in urging the Government to enforce improved sanitation of Maori pahs, Some of these pahs were hotbeds of disease and a menace to public health, Infectious diseases wero spread throughout the Dominion therefrom,—The Mayor commented on the insanitary oonditioij. of some of the North Island Maori tourV ist resorts, particularly adjacent to Ro» torua. The conditions were horrible, and in one district the Government had built a sanatorium in .close proximity.— It was agreed to Bupport the Tauranga Council's resolution. General.
The Mayor reported that hi had ordered half a ton of carbide for present requirements. The price of carbide wa<? coming down quiokly. It was now quoted at £4O per ton, f.o.b. Christchurch, with the probability of further reduction. The question of providing stop-cocks for the borough mains, to discover the 25 per cent, leakage of gas, was held over for further consideration, It was decided to procure six barrel of tar for repairing footpaths, Stock Running Loose. In connection with the borough's inspector's request for advice as to whether action could be taken against persons driving horses loose along the streets, the Mayor stated that this was an infringement of the by-laws. Proceedings were taken against a local oarrior some years ago for this offence.—lnspector to be notified accordingly.
