Personal Pars.

The appointments are announced to the magisterial bench of Mr G. S, Barton, of Wellington, and Mr S. L. P, Free, of Christchurch. Mr Free is well known in Otago and Southland as Captain Free, who has represented the military autho* rities so frequently at sittings of the Military Service Board. He wsb formerly a member of the firm of Free, Cottrell, and Lawry, barristers and solitors, Beefton, but he has not praotißed for about 10 years, during which time he has resided in Christchurch.

Dr Eoßa Collier, who has received a temporary appointment under the Ofcago Education Board, expects to be absent from the district for about two months, during which time she will carry out inspections of the various schools within the Board's district. She has been fortunate in securing the services of Dr. Winnie Wilson, who will act as locum tenens in her absence, Dr Wilson assumes her duties about the beginning of August, and having practised in Central Otago and Canterbury is "not deterred by nightwork and long trips. We under* stand Dr Collier is acquiesing in this arrangement solely on account of the difficulty being experienced in securing the services of medical practitioners brought about by the war conditions prevailing.
