Grey's residence last Monday, and pre* sonted with a money belt and safety razor, Private Bringans was unable to stay for the soldiers' -social on Thursday evening. The Clarendon Postmistress, Mrs Tait, is away on a well-earned holiday, and Miss Grey .is in chargo of the Post Office, pro tern. It is reported that the Milbarn Lima Coy has purchased Mr Harlo'a house at Milburn for the use of the manager, Complimentary Social. A social ia honour of Privates R. Hare, J. Carr and D. Fraser was held in the school on Thursday evening. I\% W. Grey, chairman of the Patriotic Com" mitteo presided, and the building was filled to overflowing. Private Fraser was unable to be present, Tho Chairman brieily explained the object of the gathering. Each of the soldiers had a brother wouoded and now they were going to take their place. This talented lady also played most of the accompaniments of the evening, and contributed largelv to its success. Miss Alexander gave a capital interpretation of " Good bye, Girlie," and was encored, and Miss Ethel Brabyn sang very sweetly " Where are the boys." Mr Lawrence fairly roused the Scotch blood in the " Hundred pipers an a'," and being re* called gave "Bonny Dundee." Mr F. Alexander was encored for the " Wreck," and selections were aho given by Mrs Somervillo, Master James Smith, Messrs Bowie, M'Grouthor, Brooklands, and W. T. Brabyn. The accompaniments were $ tastefully played by Mi3ses Gresty, WiN cox, and Brabyn, A collection was taken up for the Y. M.C.A., and over Jg4 was collected. Votes of thanks to the ladies, the boiler men, and the Chairman, followed by the National Anthem, concluded a very successful function.
