PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

BRANCH FORMED AT NAPIER.

NAPIER. Juno 13. A public meeting Was held this afternoon in connection with the formation in Napier of a branch of the Society for Promoting the Health of Women and Children.

The Mayor (Mr J. Vigor Brown) presided. There was a large attendance of ladies, and representatives of the medical profession were present. The Governor and Lady Plunket attended. Lady Plunket read a paper on the objects of the Society, and Lord Plunket was ono of the speakers. Among the contributions received towards the funds of the Society was one of £IOO from Mr J. Vigor Brown, and one of £SO from Mr E. W. Knowles.

His Excellency, on behalf of Lady Plunket and the Society, thanked the Napier people for the sympathy they had shown with the movement,
