Riach, J. Parlane, J. Taylor. A. E. Stewart, and 0. King. CORRESPONDS S CE. Mrs Louise J. Seddon wrote acknowledging with, deep gratitude the resolution pussed by the couuoil on the deain of her husband, antifoxpressed the thanks of her* self and family for the council's kind sympathy in their sad Bereavement* The kind words and the appreciative reference to her husband were comforting to them in the time of grief and trouble. —Received. Mr Finlay M'Kay, Bajolutha North, wrote offering to supply blue-stone metal, 2i inch guage, at Milton station for 6s 6d per cubic yard; blue Btono screenings at 6s per cubic yard.—His Worship stated that he had ordered three tracks of metal from Logan's Point for two reasons; one was to complete werk at M'Donaid's right-of-way, and it was cheaper and better than anv other metal, the price being only 4* 4d per yard. If any additional metal was wanted it would be best to obtain it from Logan's Point. If the council required screenings it would cost 5s per yard from Logan's Point, with 2s 4d for railage; this charge was too excessive. He would like the council to confirm his action in ordering the metal, and also to obtain screenings to finish some footpaths which urgently required attending to.—Cr Riach moved that the mayor's action in seouring metal be approved of.— Seconded by Cr Grey and agreed to. Murphy considered Mr Chisholm had little to complain about. He bad a good metalled road-to his other gate, and there was very little traffic on Scott street; the footpath was m good order, whilst in some other streets ratepayers were compelled to plough through mud.---Cr Grey moved that it be referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. —Seconded by Cr Stewart.—Cr King said the committee had visited the locality a number of times. He was not quite certain how the work was to be done, but he thought the estimated expenditure was about £so.—Cr Hen derson moved, and Cr Murphy seconded, that the Works Committee inspect, and report at next meeting.— The voting was equal, and the Mayor gave bis casting vote in favor of the amendment.
