It cost over $35,000 to police the British houses of parliament last year. England's new Pacific cable from British Columbia to Australia wall cost about $7,600,000. One of the favorite beverages in St. Pierre was eoeoanut milk and rum mixed in the shell. Owing to n Turkish imperial order the teaching- of Armenian history has been prohibited in Turkey. Among- London's taverns are seven "Adam and Eves," five "Noah'a Arks," and two "Jacob's Wells." The increased importation in France of American corn meal is due chiefly to its use for fattening geese. Although Germany has not extended its territory in Europe since 1871, yet her population has increased since then by 16,000,000. Fairly good English was spoken by 60 per cent, of the German soldiers who visited Dublin recently while their wjuadron was at Kingston. Frozen meat, which has been eaten extensivety at Durban, South Africa, since the war, is held responsible for the dyspepsia prevailing i» that town. Actions against newspapers in Germany can hereafter be brought only in the town in w,hich they are published. The Eeichstag has just pasaed a law to that effect. The writer of an article in the National Review traveled from Vladivostok to London in 26 days, but with compulsory delays of 15 days more, for $290, including hotel expenses.
