The Carcoar Tragedy
Farther particulars concerning the affair at the Carcoar Bank show that Phillips was horribly haoked, there being eight wounda on his body. Miss Cavannagh's throat was oat. She had only arrived a few days before the tragedy happened. Tho murdererß escaped on horses stolen from the townspeople. Acoording to tbe evidence' given by Mrs* Phillips the burglar fell on her husband with a tomahawk when she wrested the latter from him. He regained it however, and struck her in the- face, and then attacked her husband again, breaking hia spine and knocking him about horribly, Miaa Cavannagh then oame on the Bcene and the burglar ruahed-on her and out her throat with one blow, threaten] og two other women with the same fate if they gave the alarm. A child was also injured in the melee. A second man stood by the whole time. A young man named Glaason, brother of the Rev. Mr Glaaaon, and well connected in Carooar, has been arrested on suspicion of being the perpetrator. Mrs Phillips has Identified him as the man who committed tho outrage.
