THE OTAGO CENTRAL.

(By Telegraph). Wellington, May 27. The sub-committee in connection with the Otago Central Railway waited on the Premier last night and asked for fnrther assistance towards the construction of the line. The Premier said that the Government were not in a position to go beyond the vote promised in the Financial Statement. The deputation pointed out that the vote there promised (£200,000) was really only a partial repayment of money owing to the Otago Central Railway, a sum of £240,000 out of the £300,000 voted from the last loan having been misappropriated to other purposes. The Premier reiterated that the Government could not give any further vote, the present vote being estimated to take the line to Hyde. A further meeting of the Otsgo members is to be held to consider the question of promoting the formation of a syndicate for tbe construction of the line. — ' Star.'
