LAWN TENNIS.

BRUCE V. TAIERI. The return match between the above clubs was played on the Milton Lawn on Saturday last. There was a high wind blowing throughout, which rendered it a difficult thing to play well ; nevertheless some food tennis was shown. The following was the result : — Messrs Mahoney and M'Elrea (Bruce) beat Messrs W. Allan and Pram (Taieri) three Bets— (6— 3 6-3 6—3.) Messrs OUiver and Reid (Taieri) beat Messrs Fox and Mitchell (Bruce) — (6 — 5 6—4 6—2 ) Messrs Black and Poppelwell (Bruce) beat Messrs Price and Inglis (Taieri) — (6— c 6—5 6-3.) Mr Gourley and Dr Reid (Bruce) then started to play against Messrs J. Allan and Russell (Taieri), and the game stood at four games all when the visitors had to leave for home by the evening train. It will thus be seen that in the three competitions played, Bruce scored six sets to their opponents three. The visitors were entertained at lunch by the local club at Mr G. Coombe'a Hotel between the competitions.
