f Fifty thousand of the Californlan ova apportioned h for Southland were received at Tnvercargill on Thursday afternoon, and immediately taken to the breeding ponds. When unpacked they were, found to be in splendid order, and not more than one per cent. dead. Great care . had been bestowed on the packing. The other moiety of the shipment was left behind at Port Chalmers through snme mistake. ' — Mr Firth has successfully placed 40,000 salmon in the Punui River, -King country, the Chief Re wi assisting him. , The Canterbury consignment of 100,000 salmon .ova arrived there by the steamer Rotorna on Saturday. When the boxes were opened the ova were found, to be. ( in splendid condition.
