«. (From our own Correspondent,) In these latitudes just now the weather, though dry, is not altogether what one Avould desire. The nights are intensely cold, Avhile the days, that is, the four or five hours about midday, are mild enough. The great gutter, in which there are three parties at work, is being Avorked in much the same style as formerly, only that Bolton and party, Avho occupy the north end of it, have resoh'ed .to Avash away from 80 to 105 feet of the top, leaving about 20 or 30 feet in the bottom of the gutter, which is supposed to contain the best gold. Their reason for doing so is that they have not fall enough to go to the entire depth. Johnson and Webb, Avho occupy the central claim, although unable to bottom, have done a deal of Avork during the last year, and that systematically too. They are Avell pleased Avith the result. The party — O'Brien's — at the south end are rather languid in the prosecution of their work, oAving, I believe, to a change in the partnership. In reefing matters the Nil Desperandum takes the lead. Their last crushing was 81 ozs. for six Aveeks' Avork, at their small battery. Messrs Kincaid, M'Queen & Co. have just completed an order for this small Company, viz., a neAV battery, Avhich is being erected under the management of Mr J, Thomson, manager of the claim. There are now ten men at Avork — two are bringing in a race on to the top of the wheel, for, although working as a breast wheel, it is an overshot, and from its size — 24 feet in diameter — is a most powerful motive power.
