Bruce Rifles.
Qn Wednesday night there was a commanding officer's parade of the Bruce Rifles. There Xere, present — Twenty-four rauk and file, three Sergeants, Ist and 2nd , Lieutenant, Captain Pettit, and Major Jones. The company, were put through various evolutions for about an hour and a-half, after which the prizes won on the. anniversaries of the Queen's and Prince of Wales' . birthdays were distributed by Major Jones. Mr James Gropdr all, the Mayor, then presented the Cup given by him— valued, at £10 10s — to I<ieut..fc>cott, [ who was. the' highest aggregate scorer at the Queen's birthday matches. In making the presentation he alluded to the care and perseyerance a man had to exercise before he 'could; become a good marksman. Cheers were tlien given for those who gaye the .pmes. The Champion Belt, for the highest scorer in the class-firing, was presented to [ Private Mathieson, sear. £68 was distributed jin money prizes. Before the men were dis- | banded the Captain intimated that position drill would' be commenced on Wednesday next, and expressed a hope that there would be a good muster.
