Mercer reports for the week ending Dee. 30 — "Retiiil priee3 only: Fresh butter, in £ and lib prints, for the first qnality, 7d, to 9.1 ; second quality, 6d to 7d per lb ; fresh better, in lumps, 6.1 per lb ; pow iered and salt btrtter, 7J to 8d , per lb. Butter is still very .plentiful, and a great quantity of butter is being salted down every -week. 'No enquiry after salt butter in kegs, and; stocks getting heavy ; several parcels are about; ,< to be shipped to try the home market. Choese. is still very plentiful, and very little of the new I Beason cheese in yet. on account of the market : being stocked with old cheese — forthe best qualit-. , 6d to 8d per lb, second quality 4d to 6d, G-ood Colonial hams and bacon are scarce at present, and for good ha^is Is per lb, and side and rolled bncon, lOd to Is. The market is completely glutted with eggs, and retailing at 10J to Is per: dosen. In the produce market no real alteration has transpired ; the enquiry for flour has been slightly belter, but without stiffening quotations, which "remain Ll3 nominal. Holders of wheats demand ss, but the sales have been very tiifling. Millers not caring to do business at the figure. Oats quiet, prices varying from Is 8d to Is 10d for inferior, to 2s to 23 2a for bright and superior lots. Good malting barley is quoted at 3s 9d to i 4s, none offering.
