Original Correspondence.

{To th-e Editor of tlie Bruce Herald. ) Sir,— lll the columns of your paper havd appeared several letters upon '* Early Closing " — a subject in itself which deserves both the attention and sympathy of oiir coriimunity. When men at hard play have put in a long day from eight in the morning till six in the afternoon, no reasonable man but will think that ho has done penanca enough for that day's pay. But some peculiar beings believe in long-winded wretched plodding, and in obedieuce t6 a certain desire in tho inner man— which it is. unnecessary here to characterise— would like to go on from sunrise to bedtime. This every proper thinking man will have no hesitation whatever iii characterising as a species . Of wretchec. slavery, revolting alike to freedom and right thought — it is in reality the doings 'of a grovelling miser. But why should not riien. of reason and sense put their heads toge^hei* and agree to close all alike at the s'amehour ? FrOm certain hints in one pf the letters upon the subject I can learn that some, even of the fraternity in question, are suspected as "achins" in the camp, and hence a valid reason. In this there is si good deal of the fox, because if all other doors were closed, aud mine only open then would I expect to reap an abundant harvest. But if I were td know the individuals in 'question I would avoid their door, not only afc a late hour, but during broad daylight, and throw my ifiita into the coffers of those who are willing to go in for fair play, and this in order to reduce those incorrigible ones to the full level of their more noble confreres, that from thei." necks may be removed a yoke that neither we nor our fathers could bear. Hoping to see " Early Closing" speedily and permanently established. T am, &c., Yei/low COTTOSTv
