POLITICAL POEM.
The devil went a limiting upon a summer's day, And the devil went a hunting, a hunting for his pvey ; He lighted, in Otago, and he wasn't far to blame , For there's not a better place on earth for the devil and his game. Then the devil said unto himself, before that I begin, I will call upon some old friends, and taste a drop of gin ; Sat first I'll have my breakfast, for my appetite is keen, So I'll just step to " oor Q-eordie s, my friend frcax Aberdeen. . It's altered days wi' Geordie he now has turned sac proud, He scarcely kens an auld freen when bouncing through the crowd ; HI bide my time, quoth Satan, for I have him sure enough, But first he must be kuighted as Sir G-eordie Puddin' Puff. Then the devil ho sat on a bank, and loudly ho did laugh, I nearly had forgotten the jolly Ayrshire calf ; I'll go there for my dinner, and taste his jolly cheer, Then I'll ioin him with my bagpipes when he 9 bawling out hear, hear. And when I've had my dinner, then I will sing a song In praise of legislators who swear that right is wrong; And surely I'll support them with my infernal weight, For I dearly love my children who swear that black is wnite. And when the evening hag set in, to the Council I'll repair, Though I've been often in that place, though they knew not I was there ; But I must do them justice, they really served me well, . Indeed I think they rivul my Parliament in i± — . Ceaicuelee. May, 1868.
