CARPENTERS' DISPUTE.
[press association.]
WELLING TON, January 24
Though the Council of Conciliation has been sitting for two and a half days in an endeavor to settle the dispute between the Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners and the employers throughout tho district, finality has not yet been reached. The council sat at the Supreme Court again to-day, Mr i J . Halley, Conciliation Commissioner, presiding. The less important points had been settled at the previous sittings, the whole of today being occupied by a discussion on the questions of hours, wages and preference, tho chief difficulty was in connection with wages, and no decision could be arrived at, though it is stated not more than a halfpenny per hour divided the parties. Tho council thereupon adjourned until February 7, before which there are hopes that a definite settlement may be come to.
